“What makes life worth living? No child asks itself that question. To children, life is self-evident. Life goes without saying: whether it is good or bad makes no difference. This is because children don’t see the world, don’t observe the world, don’t contemplate the world, but are so deeply immersed in the world that they don’t distinguish between it and their own selves. Not until … a distance appears between what they are and what the world is, does the question arise: what makes life worth living?” - Karl Ove Knausgård
Contemplation on the purpose of life and what makes life worth living - an on going thought in my own life. Knausgard brings up a thought inducing point stating that children are 'so deeply immersed in the world that they don't distinguish between it and their own selves'.
So, are adults just overthinking it?
The things making life worth living are simple. To understand that it keeps going, to accept the impermanence in moments makes life worth it. There's no good or bad, or at least it doesn't make a difference while contemplating the worthiness of living.
Immersing and being mindful of the present makes it all worth it.
